Flash Count

Shapes blink in and out. Only one kind counts. How many did you see?

How to play

  1. 1You're shown one shape in one colour — that combination is your target.
  2. 2Shapes flash on and off. Count only the ones matching BOTH colour and shape.
  3. 3Type your count at the end. Off by more than one and you lose a life.

Why it works

Counting a feature combination forces you to check two things at once on every flash, which is far harder than tracking a single colour. It is a sustained attention task: one lapse and your running total is wrong, and unlike a puzzle you cannot go back and check.

FAQ

What round is good?
Round 4 is solid and round 6 is exceptional. By then the shapes come twice as fast and most of them are near-misses.
Why is it so much harder than counting one colour?
A single feature can pop out on its own. A combination cannot — you have to inspect each item, and that costs attention you'd rather spend on keeping count.
