This is multiple object tracking, the task researchers use to measure how many moving things attention can hold at once. Most adults max out around four. Because the orbs become identical, memory of position is useless — you have to keep an active grip on them the whole time.
Around three to four moving objects is the typical ceiling for adults. Reaching level 8 here means holding four at once through a long scatter.
Look at the middle of the group rather than chasing one orb with your eyes. Darting between targets is what makes people lose them.
