Digit Span Memory

Digits flash one by one. How many can you hold in your head?

How to play
  1. 1

Digits appear on screen one at a time — memorize the sequence.

  2. 2

When they stop, type the digits back in the same order.

  3. 3

Each success adds one more digit. Two misses and the run ends.

WHY IT WORKS

Why it works

Digit span is the classic working-memory test used in cognitive psychology for over a century. The average adult holds about 7 digits — pushing past that trains the mental scratchpad you use for math, reading and conversation.

FAQ

What is an average digit span?

Around 7 digits, plus or minus 2. A span of 9 or more is exceptional.

Any tricks to remember more?

Chunking: group digits into pairs or triples (like a phone number) instead of holding them one by one.
